In a private ceremony in East Hampton, NY, artist Terence Koh has married his more than 10 year lover, graphic designer Garrick Gott. Terence wore his mother's wedding dress, to which he added yards upon yards of white tulle. This is NY State, and while they are not legally married, I celebrate their union and wish them all the best.

While shopping in East Hampton, we came upon the usual suspects, Gucci, J. Crew, Ralph Lauren, Scoop and John Varvatos. A few new shops opened here that I love, including Hermès, James Perse and Steven Alan. Hermès was even featuring a black shiny porosus crocodile 40cm HAC, that was to die for. The Hermès shop is a pop-up temporary store that I hope will be here next Summer. It is right at home in this tony village.

The best new shop is Clic Bookstore and Gallery, opened by Christian Celle of Calypso fame. Since she sold her interest in Calypso, she is free to dream of new retail opportunities. We visited Clic in St. Barth's earlier this year and I was pleased to find one here in East Hampton. The shop is housed in a charming cottage strewn with rare and unusual art books as well as art work for sale. We bought this book on photographer Candida Hofer, because we have one of her majestic Palais Garnier (Opera de Paris) images in our home.

Artist Jacqueline Hassink may be Luxury Obsessed. This photograph: CHANEL, 2007, from the series Haute Couture Fitting Rooms, explores the ultra-elite and private world of the Haute Couture. From the Amador Gallery website:

The haute couture world is the most elite in the fashion industry. Unusually large rooms with mirrors, they are private spaces within a private environment. In "Haute Couture Fitting Rooms, Paris" (2003-ongoing), Hassink addresses these spaces that are a reflection of the very specific corporate image the couturier wants to project, and at the same time a secluded and elite 'mirror world'.

My partner, in support of my blog, gave me this frame today for my recent "Art Acquisition", the Barbara Kruger "I Shop Therefore I Am" postcard from The Metropolitan Museum. Isn't that sweet?

We visited the Metropolitan Museum today. We especially wanted to see The Pictures Generation, Francis Bacon: A Centenary Retrospective and The Model As Muse: Embodying Fashion. It was a giant undertaking to see all three shows in one day, but we were determined and we marched on.

We started with The Pictures Generation, which was a revelation of the 1974-1984 period of post-minimal and post-conceptual art, which ushered in a new era of recognizable imagery. This important period brought in new forms of appropriation that have become commonplace in every creative endeavor, from fashion to music. Many of my favorite artists, including Cindy Sherman, Barbara Kruger, Robert Longo and Richard Prince are represented.

Viewing Francis Bacon, a darkly inscrutable painter, takes an emotional toll. The culmination of the show is the room of portraits of the artist's lover George Dyer painted after his fatal drug overdose on the eve of Bacon's Paris show in 1971. Bacon is an uncompromising painter with a very dark vision. His self-portrait mourning the death of Dyer is perhaps the saddest painting I have ever seen. This heart wrenching show is worth every painful moment.

Model As Muse served as a break between our more intellectual pursuits. It was a joy to see images of the Super Models of the 80s and 90s as well as iconic photographs and fashion from the birth of fashion photography to the present.

Finally a quick lunch at the Roof Garden, where we viewed Roxy Paine's bewitching sculpture: Maelstrom.

We attended the ACRIA Unframed 20009 event this week. These are some of the pieces we saw. The last piece is by artist Terence Koh and we took that one home.
