Burberry vs. Zara
in Burberry, Fall/Winter '09, Purchases, Zara

images: Burberry
The Burberry Portrait t-shirt for Fall/Winter '09 is produced in a beautiful grey cotton wool blend that is semi-sheer and has long sleeves. Available at Burberry Worldwide $325 USD.
Zara is a favorite "inspired by" brand of mine that re-interprets runway looks at incredibly low prices. The fit and quality are very good, considering the cost. I tend to avoid buying direct copies, as I feel they are of questionable taste and are ultimately unfair to the original creators.
This Zara t-shirt is clearly "inspired by" the Burberry Prorsum one above, but it is not a direct copy. I will probably wear it with a vest or under a black cardigan. Notable differences include: larger portrait, more youthful subject, silver accents, v-neck, 100% cotton, etc. Zara portrait t-shirt, grey 100% cotton, short sleeves, $29.90 USD.
Zara Majorelle Blue
in Men's Shoes, Zara
I guess my copycat week continues. I was quite impressed when Kevin of MyMANyBags fame purchased these shoes back in May 2009 at Zara Bangkok. I went out immediately and bought them for myself, but in a fit of buyer's remorse, I returned them. Well, of course, I couldn't get them out of my head and went back to Zara, perhaps a week later, only to learn that they had sold out! Well, a trip back yesterday and they had replenished their stock, so without further ado, I present my very own Zara Majorelle Blue Loafers. They are made of the softest nubuck in the brightest electric cobalt blue.
I took the photo of the Majorelle Garden in 2007 during our amazing visit to Morocco.
What a nice way to brighten up my rather neutral wardrobe. Thanks Kevin!

Inspired by...Balmain
in Balmain, inspired by, Zara
Balmain's fall collection has several items with the exaggerated shoulder as seen on this blazer below. (Photo credit: Style.com)

I just saw on the blog Nitrolicious these photos of Zara's Autumn/Winter 2009-2010 collection and there are two items that are very Balmain inspired. Unfortunately Zara does not have online shopping on their website, so when this collection comes out you better run to the store to grab these pieces for yourself! (Retail prices on both pieces is unknown at this time.)
