Deyrolle

A visit to Paris, for me, is not complete without a visit to Deyrolle, the famous taxidermy shop on the Rue du Bac in the 7th. My last two visits were particularly poignant because Deyrolle suffered a catastrophic fire on February 1, 2008. Last year, during my May visit, only two small galleries upstairs had been salvaged. I triumphantly chose two lovely butterflies and had them mounted in one of their signature glass front boxes. I was relieved that another large gallery has been completed this year and that the entire upstairs will be on view by September 2009. I can't show you the beautiful butterflies I purchased this year to join my pair from last year, because they are safely tucked away in bubble wrap and paper. I promise to show you when I get home. This place is like no place else in the world. Their website: Deyrolle.
